What it's all about?
SkyMood is a weather app that's not just about forecasts,
it offers personalized clothing, food, and travel suggestions
based on the weather, all tailored to the user's preferences. It also provides a playlist that interfaces with Spotify to lift the spirit.
Breaking Ground
Checking the weather every day and constantly having to adjust made me realize that there's a need for an app that does more than just give basic weather info. It should also offer practical and emotional solutions. The major challenges before the research process were:
1. Make choices that change due to the weather easier.
2. Preparing the user for the upcoming weather and preventing pain points.
3. Finding an answer to the changing mood depending on the weather
Into the users' world
Over 100 users answered questionnaires, in addition to 7 personal interviews
Women answered

Listen to music on a daily basis
And their mood is affected by it

once every two weeks
Benchmark
Weather apps, Google search, or widgets in the device's design system are the main competitors. Although they still tend to provide only weather data, without offering any additional value. And although no such app was found on the market, there are several apps that are nevertheless similar and offer SOME added value beyond basic weather
Disadvantages
• Only clothing recommendations
• Lacks inspiration Impersonal, and generic.
• Not enough to replace the weather apps
Advantages
• Functional
• Clear UX overall
• Great microcopy
Research conclusions
Honestly, I wasn't sure what features to include. User research enlightened me. As an introvert, I was surprised by how often people travel and the weather is a major player in their decisions. As a result of Interviews and questionnaires confirming this need, I could know for sure that there was a need for a feature accordingly. The music feature was also added following the research.

The weather affects my mood, when it's cloudy,
I feel just as gloomy.
Every morning, I have to rush out to work, so I don't have much time to figure out what to wear, let alone put together an awesome outfit. And then the weather changes throughout the day and I end up stuck in the wrong clothes.

Traveling is my jam. Every time I go somewhere,
the weather ends up throwing me for a loop and messing with my plans. When flying to a new destination, I always try to check the forecast and pack accordingly. The weather can even affect what I feel like eating.
The Product
There’s a widget!
In order to replace the apps that are part of the device system, I created a widget/notification that summarizes the weather AND a few must-have clothing items for the day or for the next hours. The added value of clothing items could make a difference in the user's preference for choosing this product over others.
Experience & Expression
The users choose theme colors and enter their mood so the app can provide a feed accordingly. The very expression of the mood regarding the weather is important UX personalization in itself.
Home page
The home page features a Look & Feel similar to common weather apps. Following that, a personalized summary of recommendations based on the user's current weather conditions and mood.
At the bottom of the home page is a feature that provides real-time updates on recommended actions to take and those to avoid in the upcoming hours related to the user's daily activities.
We've got you covered
Based on the users' input, the app learns the fashion styles, culinary preferences, and their favorite places to travel, thus saving time when choices are frequently forced to change due to the weather. Of course, there is business potential here for cooperation with fashion brands, food deliveries, and tourism and travel companies.
It's all about the music
According to user research, music affects mood and can be a good solution for a better user experience in the app. I added a playlist feature that interfaces with Spotify and compiles for the user a playlist that matches his mood and the weather, thus lifting the spirit.
Plan ahead
In the bar menu, the user can get a weather forecast for up to 10 days ahead. In this way, the user can plan in advance. It's particularly useful for long-distance trips and flights.
Open sesame
The app's bar menu includes a "Saved" tab where users can find all items they've saved, organized by weather categories to create a personalized mood inspiration board. This feature empowers users to control their experience and revisit items they love, ultimately keeping them engaged with the app.
